So, I’m brand new to this whole ‘Facer Creator’ thing and am starting with a fairly simple watch face I’m making custom for my wife. It only has one element with a custom piece of code in it which counts down days left to a hardcoded day of the year. After putting the watch face all together and then sending it to my watch to test, much to my dismay, 75% of the watch face that looked (and worked) just fine in the editor did not even display on my watch (a Samsung Galaxy 6 running Wear OS 4.0). Thinking that perhaps one of the different elements I put in place was conflicting with the others, I decided to re-build it one element at a time. I made a duplicate of the original watch face and then removed all elements with the exception of a background color and a background graphic. I then added in the digital clock element (the most basic of the watch functions, I assume). I then saved it and loaded it to my watch… nothing. The background color and image loaded, but no digital clock readout. Any suggestions to a newbie designer as to why basic functions of the creator aren’t working when loaded to an actual watch?
UPDATE Turns out my initial problem was that I’d not saved the watch face after adding the element and before uploading it to my actual watch. (Yes - a PEBCAK error.) So, now I’m continuing to add elements, saving them, then uploading them to my watch to test. I’ll report back if I bump into one that’s not working after following those steps.
Welcome to the community.
This is the place to learn, don’t hesitate to ask…
UPDATE: PART II Okay, I have no idea what I did the first attempt. But rebuilding (and testing) the watch face one element at a time has resulted in success! The final product is the same as the first one I built, but obviously something is different. Regardless - I suppose this thread is now ‘closed’ since my issue seems to be resolved. However, glad to make everyone’s acquaintance and looking forward to learning more and getting more advanced and complex with my skillset here.
Welcome @Eightbit . We do not close Topics because there is a Resolution . Creator let’s you get away with some Coding Errors . But watches are more fussy about a Syntax . I some times I check stuff looking at the My Designs in the Watch box on the Facer App on my phone . Since we can not simulate Gyro stuff on Creator .
Some here say the if it will work on a Ticwatch, it will work on anything. As Russel says syntax is important.
Thank you to everyone for your replies and for making me feel welcome. Here’s my first watchface (which I made for my wife to countdown to our 30th anniversary trip to England). My ‘custom’ programming also involves changing the word ‘DAYS’ in the countdown to ‘DAY’ when the number reaches ‘1’. Once it reaches ‘0’ or below, it probably starts smoking and melts.
I ended up having to make it on her account as I could find no other way to apply it to her watchface (without publishing it) other than to recreate it using her account. A question which I’ve asked about here.)
BTW I like your Stage Name @Eightbit . Brilliant . My Wife did not want to open an account on Facer . I make her Faces and Email the Published Link to Her Phone / Obviously she has the Facer app on her phone with the correct Watch Model chosen . Some try this trick with unpublished Faces . Enjoy .
Thank you, @russellcresser . So, that’s a workaround for a published watch face. What if it is a face I don’t want to publish? For example, it has a personal photo on the watch face or something like that? (Should I be posting this in another thread? I’m off topic now.)
No Mate it is not a secret but I prefer to keep it reasonably Quiet . If you would like to contact me DM I could share some tricks . BTW my Wife does not want me to Publish the Faces I make for Her . Naturally .
