Help with showing year in the date

Can someone remind me how to show the year? As in Fri, Jun 6th 27
I thought it was something like #DYEAR# but when I do that in the date element nothing shows up, same as if I do it in a new text element. Then if I add it to the date element like #DEEEE#, #DMMMM# #DdL# #DYEAR# it again does nothing. When I try it as a new text layer that way I get some weird string of code. Which leads me to realize either I remembered the wrong Tag or I am entering it wrong. Also when I search how to show year. I just get a bunch of show your style posts come up with things like Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year or a countdown timer. So if one of you swell peeps could remind me the proper way to get the year to display that would be cool of you.

Have you tried #Dy# or #Dyyyy# yet?
I just searched here for Year Tags and they came up, always best to search before asking as most things have already been covered previously :+1:

for a two digit abbreviation there is tag #Dyy#
PS: whenever you start to write tag, it offers possible variations

I have not but I will. As I mentioned I searched how to show year in the date and got a bunch of useless (at least for now) posts. Later on those posts maybe useful but not at the moment.

@tom_p199 . If you want to show a text result in a text box . You have to encase it in a couple of () . Check out some inspectables .

Sometimes It takes some doing for me to know where I am supposed to place things. Sometimes you can replace or ad to the element, sometimes you put it in a new text layer, sometimes it goes in the rotation area or the opacity area. I usually try all areas until either one works or none of them work or they don’t do what I wanted. At which point I come ask you guys and get clarification of where I went wrong.

Yes . Creator is good for the trial and error approach . Phase 2 is Copy and Paste . Have Fun is the most important . Note above Text / Tag Boxes to the right there is a Debugging number . If there is no number there your formula has failed . That is the only debugging we have . Did you see the Documented list of Tags and Expressions ?

Honestly no. I’ve never noticed that. Usually I just do the default element such as digital time or date, something like that. Or I copy and paste the Tag in. I don’t normally just start typing random stuff in seeing what comes up. Maybe I will try that just to see what kind of things I discover.

Check some inspectable Faces for Formula structure . Like any coding the Syntax is very fussy . However some are having sucess getting AI Bots to compose formulas . Have Fun .

The problem is thst there is often more than one way to achieve the result you are looking for and facer has it’s own peculiarities to add into the mix ! There sre many people here who will go out of the way to help you - they go above and beyond to help people who put in the effort to try and learn as you are doing.

I am very much a beginner on my Facer journey but there are 4 things that I learnt at the start:

  1. DUPLICATE before publishing.
  2. Read everything here from the latest to the oldest - most questions have already been answered
  3. Check the banned word list Banned words likley to get your Face Taken Down by the Bot - #38 by russellcresser
  4. Number your watchfaces - i use BLZ-XXX and title. Some here add a letter to indicate the type of watchface eg A for analog D for digital. Doing all this helps you later

But above all have fun and dont be afraid to ask if you really get stuck
