WiKi . List of Banned / Copyright Words likely to get a published face Taken Down

Yes . It is a little like a Comedy Sketch . Enjoy .

When R###X comes out with their OY#S#R - DAYT#N# - NAV#GAT#R - P#RPET#AL UTC DAY/DATE model…yes UTC will be banned too. :upside_down_face:

I think this isn’t really about copyright on ā€œGMTā€ itself, but rather Facer’s own platform rules. They probably block it to avoid any issues with real watch brands and to stay on the safe side legally. Since it’s their platform, they’re free to decide what they allow or not, even if it seems stricter than the law. Maybe contacting Facer support about this might be the best way to get a clear answer.

May be we should try use G.M.T. and U.T.C. :joy:

I’ve been using UTC/GMT in my descriptions.

my design below has just been removed, after it was online for two years already. I just renamed and tried to update the publication. Then I received the infringement email:

Should I’ve named it ā€œFat & Slimā€ instead?!? What a comedy show…

I’m curious if and what the team responds to my appeal, I only got the automatic reply asking for my phone’s model and version etc. which is totally irrelevant…

[Edit]
I renamed it and apparently ā€œd!ckā€ is an infringement, although it is a regular german word in a german title. Another similar layout didn’t get rejected but also didn’t get published for unknown reasons, a.k.a. WFF problems. I’m 5% before leaving the whole platform. If only there was a way to rescue my designs…

Yes, has happened to me too!
I have become careful to be as generic as possible in the description. Also in upgrading an old watch face…

On the WFS Forum you get a refusal to post your message if you use the word Analogue in the text . It flags that you have used the word Anal . @s.w . Don’t give up . They are working on Bots that Can Teach the present Bots to get it all right . We know they will be successful because they have many more fingers to type with than we do . Maybe you can add Dick to the Wiki . Or I will do it .

I went numerical on my naming. I was doing like you but I was running out of names. I started using MAG and a four-digit watch number that just happens to being short form of Mr Antisocial Guy # 1,234.

I had a watch removed because it had the word fallout in the description. It had zero to do with the game, but they rejected it. I appealed and they restored it to my drafts. I removed the word fallout and re-published it. They rejected it again. Appears that ANYTHING to do with Atomic energy, radiation, Toxic waste or any number of Standard English Dictionary nouns that cannot legally be issued copyrights for, only trademarks (Which can only then be infringed by a similar Product attempting to confuse the market) are off limits. Literally zero elements to my watch are not public domain or provided by facer themselves, and yet: rejected. Killed my desire to make any more.

The logic in this appeal procedure is twisted sick.
They eventually admit, that by using the automatically filtered word you actually did not infringe and therefore reinstate your face, yet they still prohibit the use of it anyway.

@james.magnano
That is why I use MAG followed by numbers in my watchface names, and the description only includes the watch items like time, weather, health related and date related items. I NEVER describe the ā€˜look’ of the watchface. That also includes the layer names. Their servers are programmed to search for words in the description and in the layers plus some images.

This is a long ongoing discussion…
That Marvin is checking for copyright violations is obviously a good thing, the problem is his default action to send it back to the publisher with no explanation whatsoever.! He needs a bit of an AI overhaul so that he informs Facer what his suspicions are and then a human checks his work and decides if it is an infringement or a false flag that Marvin should learn from. Another thing that should happen is this should be applied retrospectively- one only needs to look at the charts where you will find Mickey’s and Rolex’s galore.
