It looks good. I do not use that my self much, but it would be more “consistent”, if looking same in dim mode and not actually brighter. But it is yours, nothing wrong if you like it that way.

On the shoulders of Giants. I traditionally look at the work of others and jus butcher it a bit to get it to do what I want. This is the way I work on Arduinos as well . That is Open Source thankfully : )
