I made a face very similar to an existing watch, see below. Is it possible to publish it or will it have unpleasant consequences? What is your experience?
First off, make a backup copy just in case. Next when publishing it DO NOT use any watch brands or trademarked phrases in the description. The more generic you describe it, the less likely anything bad will happen.
I just published a nice watchface with the olympic medal on it and it was promptly removed (first time for me, after only a few months of using facer ). I can’t imagine (or afford ) what happens when a true TM owner comes along…
The Olympics is one of those groups that fiercely defend all their trademarks and I would assume that would include the medals also. Did you by any chance use the word “Olympic” in the description? @russellcresser has a list of forbidden words to use in the watchface description. It’s amazing how many common words will get a watchface removed.
I made an oil filled face and put a little bubble in to highlight the oil . Gyro moves the bubble . well it is suppose to . some are using the compass because it it smother . Marvin the Bot that looks after Facer’s Server usually picks out the Name or some text of a Protected Property . It is later on when The Manufactures are scanning all the Faces that something can get taken down for an Image Violation .
Thats right, this (Ressence 5) was the inspiration. I came across that one by another forum thread stating it would cost about 35.000 Euro (or Pounds, or Swiss Francs). When i first saw it, i thought it was a smartwatch by the clean look of it. Then i read it is fully mechanic and was impressed by the craftsmanship.
Let’s see, the complication with just red and green is the day of the week? Also gets you AM and PM indication right? The other is battery I’m guessing.
The function is like in the original watch, the big hand is for minutes, the circle for the hour hand is always behind it. The seven segment complication is weekday, green weekend, red wednesday for readability. When the hand is going to leave the segment, its PM, just like in the images where it is just about to become thursday. The other small scale is for battery, not needed in the original watch, obviously. The date ring is rotating, the correct date is on top. I added a shading for the other day numbers for readability, its quite small anyways.
I experimented with some reflections to imitate glass, but decided against, so no content is blocked by it. And in the original one you also hardly ever see the glass (at least from the pictures, i never saw one IRL)
