After being here for years and expecting to see guidelines inside the community I finally found them here:
We really need to pay attention to that off-topic rule. I think the problem with that one is that it is too difficult to find someone to move those posts before they get way off track. Perhaps that will change when there is a new community manager.
Yeah . Well done finding that . It is very difficult to know when something is sliding off topic . Sometimes a Topic is waning and the new direction gives it a new life . Sometimes people start a new Topic on one that is running because they do not Search . I think it should be Read that it is OK to suggest people are going Off Topic . Having said that I think it is still working remarkably well .
I think that going slightly off topic as long as it is related is ok. Starting a new topic within an existing one is not, particularly if the topic has not yet resolved. However, as you say - it seems to be working rather well
The topic about Marvin’s tracking would be a good example. Discussing the trackers in this community/Facer is fine. However, discussing various AV products, pros, cons, history, etc. is off-topic so splitting it out with a new topic would keep things organized. That off-topic thread was my fault.
