How frequently does Facer poll the GPS coordinates (#LAT# and #LNG#) from the watch? I’ve used them in a design (on a Galaxy 6 Classic, Wear OS) and they so far remain static, even if I move enough distance for them change. If I restart Facer or switch faces they will update.
Are you lokking at the Lat LNG Chords . or the Names location ? I have my GPS on my Watch on all the Time . I can not say how often it is updated . These things are not constant as part of the power saving stratergy . The named location comes from Open Weather and is updated hourly I would say . If I switch the tracker on , on my watch I get a nice accurate Track . Always a few glitches when I am in built up areas or in a building . I will have to make a test and check that one .
You may have a problem if you are indoors. I’m not using this function but I had similar problem with Altitude. It didn’t work at home, worked outside. How well - I don’t know.
Yeah . Altitude can come from GPS or the Barometer . Sadly I have not come Across an app that can calibrate it properly . Sadly to Calibrate an Altimeter using the Barometer you need to know how high you are when you calibrate it . If a storm comes in while you are up the mountain it reads like you have just climbs another 1000 Foot instantly . No easy answer really . As I said before . Instruments that do this sort of thing accuratly cost Thousands not Hundreds .
Facer correctly identifying location has been my main frustration with this app so your question is very valid and remains a mystery. Not having the correct loction makes weather info inaccurate as well.
For me it defaults to my home address 95% of the time, even though I’m cities away for work or travel. It may eventually refresh to my new loction only to revert back to my home when I havent left the city I am currently in. Other watch face apps (Watchmaker) have settings in the main app that you can control all of this and even force a refresh. Please Facer, fix this core issue as there are multiple complaints throughout this board in reference to location/weather data.
If you have your GPS on and you are outdoors with a good WiFi or Mobile data Connection any mobile device could not possibly work out where you are . Give that a try and get Back to us .
Thanks everyone.
I’m using #LAT# and #LNG# tags and testing outdoors. The coordinates update in real time when I use the watch’s native compass app and walk far enough. That tells me the watch is getting good position data, whether from GPS or wifi. Walking the same path and distance with Facer active keeps the coordinates it started with. I know it has sufficient permissions, because the coordinates update when Facer restarts after a face switch.
@masterboyhr: I’ve also noticed altitude has its own set of “fun”. That’s its own topic for another day.
One final update… I ran another test today and found it is the watch itself that only updates coordinates when told to.
I found a “last refresh time” for coordinates in the native compass app. I had to press it to update the coordinates in the watch.
Then when I went back to Facer the coordinates updated right away.
Conclusion: The delayed updates weren’t due to Facer. Seems to be a “feature” of the Galaxy 6. (Probably to save battery)
Hey thanks for that . I am a fan of the Native Compass since it also give Barometer and Altitude readings . I did no know you could Poke the Location Data with it . Every day is a Learning day thanks . prior to the Poke it was 1 hour out of date . Since I am sitting on the Sofa I am Happy about that .
