Hi Russell, I am using gimp and layer command “colour to alpha”.
It took me a while to find video focused just at that one 
this one is more thorough to learn something more, just skip the advertisment

Hi again Peter . Thanks very much indeed . I have been avoiding Gimp so it is very nice to be pointed in the right direction. I am looking at that right now . most of my stuff up till now has been hard edged on Rhino4 . Learnt a lot today . Mat be the beginning of a new direction : ))

I would definitely suggest changing the colour of your text because it is hard to see on that purple background
