Need Someone To Test This On An Apple Watch Please

No idea if the animations work on this or not, nor the Battery Meters, so I’d really appreciate it if any of you have an Apple watch you could test this on for me please

My friend, I don’t have an Apple Watch to check your design …
And neither do I have no acquaintances, who have Apple What, to ask …
Excuse me, my friend Gizmo, that I cannot help you in this case

I don’t have an apple watch to test it but my understanding is that animations won’t work on apple watch faces. The screen only updates something like once every 15 minutes or something like that (except the time). This is an apple restriction so nothing can be done about it in 3rd party apps like facer.

It’s a running theme, really, Apple always knows better what you want and if you don’t then you’re wrong.
I really wanted to give the 12 Mini a shot but then saw a few videos of how restricted customization is and decided I’m good without their wisdom

Thanks guys, someone has finally replied on my Faces that the animations don’t work…320 people synced it, and someone only said about it now :joy:
I deleted all of them except the Spidey one…people are still loving that one, 320 syncs in 3 days :grinning:

Ok, animations do not work. what about other tags like date, time (seconds), battery%, temp, steps, bpm? If they do not work, why are they even there?
Does it mean, all the 800 people who downloaded my experiment since yesterday have non-functional promo-image with time instead of working watch face? some even liked it (maybe before they learned?)

I think that the Photo Watch template is limited by Apple - it displays an image with time overlaid on it. This means that nothing will be updated once the “photo” has been created.

Text fields and/or image layers in Facer can be used to place elements on the face that will, during the final creation step, be added to the background image to create a fixed “photo” to be displayed on the Apple Photo face.

In summary, as far as I know, it is not possible for an Apple Watch with Photo Face template to display elements that change - so no animation, no updating text, etc.

The more I learn about Apple and their walled garden, the happier I am that I escaped that ecosystem years ago. My last Apple product was an iPod Touch 4th gen. I still have it and it still works if I charge it up, but I can’t update anything on it because Apple doesn’t support it or it’s operating system now.

Thank you Mike, you cleared it all. That means my face there was actually just a still image of fake complications.
It would be great, if could @Facer_Official put your explanation in the documentation, what it actually means “photo face”. That adding any other elements or tags will end up in still photo of the arranged preview, not a working face above a photo background. I feel temptation to not remove my face from there, just to see how many people would want it work like it looks. But I guess 1100 broken hopes was enough.

Deleted this Face as it clearly does not work on Apple. I suggest nobody else publishes any Faces for Apple unless it is just a simple, static image, or Apple finally let’s us use other things as well, besides just a photo.

Shouldn’t have deleted just yet, but too late now :anguished:
Someone is currently checking out what works and what doesn’t for me

I feel that when you leave non-working designs, whether it is Apple or Wear OS, it tells the public that Facer has non-working watch faces. Finally, when there is a way to have them work, people will bypass those thinking that they won’t work. That does not seem fair to you and to Facer.

True. Its long ago closed case. I erased it shortly after that post. It was exposed only about 48h. Not working apple is for now out of my focus.

I totally agree with Linlay here. If a Face doesn’t work as it should, then it’s not a Face, and if people do sync it, then it just reflects that Facer and the Publisher aren’t very good.
After someone fully tested my Face on an Apple Watch, I can confirm that only static photos work, and not even any info texts work either: my #BLP# and #WCT# & #WCCT# displayed purely as that, the Tags and not the actual Info like it should be. No worries though…Apple creating time will come sooner or later, and we’ll have progressed a lot more by then :grinning:

Why does facer allow the creator to see a working watch face on the create page, when they know it’s doesn’t work? I tried an animation as well and it displayed beautifully on the create page, but after sync it didn’t work… after some research, I found this page.

Thanks for the help!

Facer for Apple is constantly being improved by the development team with functionality coming out in Alpha and Beta releases before going live. Not everything you see now will remain as it is. I imagine that the less useful tags on some/all Apple watch templates will eventually be disabled or maybe come with a warning.

In any case, there are two hard limitations imposed by Apple:

  1. the Apple Photo template can only display a fixed photo and all Facer elements will be fixed when they get to the watch; and
  2. user complications ( that you are seeing in the Premium Apple faces ) are possible on all templates except the Photo one but Apple imposes a maximum update frequency for 3rd party complications of around once every 15 minutes or so ( longer if the watch battery is getting low ). This means that complications are practically limited to elements that are still useful if they are only updated infrequently. So no animations and hands for time etc. will only move in large infrequent jumps.

Good Topic.

I published this as much of a test really .
Working in v7.0.0.35_beta on the X-Large Template.
12 Image Layers animated with #DNOW# in the Rotation Tag.
Including #BLN#
It has had a very modest 14 Syncs but no one has reported that it does not work .
I wonder why feedback is so low on Facer but always so very Delighted by any.
Especially from a Maker.

We could ask Little Labs to allow us Duplication on Apple Faces via the Beta Feedback.
: )
