POLL: Leading zero or blank with digital time

With digital clock faces, do people prefer a blank or with a zero in the front 01:34 or 1:34?

Is there a standard?

I do not have a preference. Sometimes for design purposes in order to create balance I use a leading zero. My followers have not commented either way on that. I did see a question in the Facebook Group from someone asking why a zero is included in some designers’ watch faces. There was not much discussion about it. It will be interesting to see how people reply here.

Most generally those who use 24-hour time lean towards leading zeros. Most people in America use 12-hour time and I get more complaining from them with a leading zero. What I have started doing is using a dimmed leading zero (25% vs 100%) for 12-hour time and full brightness leading zero for 24-hour time. Doing it that way I can’t remember the last time I got a complaint from the 12 group. Personally, I don’t care either way and usually make my personal watches have a 50% dimmed leading zero, just to be different.

In the UK our local Bus Time table has the time as 0824 Leading Zero no Colin . So it is quite clear that it is 24hrs clock . There are many people hoping to catch the bus that will not have a Clue . Saves on a Percentage of Printing Ink I guess . So for a 12 hrs Digital I will not show leading zero for the hours but will for the minutes . Often on a face I will represent 12hr clock with analogue 24 hrs digital as mentioned above . As MAG is saying . Make it to suit yourself if the Users like it Great if not no Problem .

Always leading zero! To it just looks aesthetically wrong without the leading zero

If one looks at the sign in page on phones, they do not regularly have a leading zero. Many of the apps do not have leading zeros. Only the stop watch in Apple has the leading zero. All other digital representation within the clock app in Apple do not have a leading zero. I think it situational. It’s what people expect in certain situations.

I do not have preference, I do not expect it on hours (yet I do expect it on minutes and seconds), but it does not bother me at all. what bothers me more is, when somebody uses font that has not fixed width and the digital time display jumps back and forth with it each second depending on how it was aligned.

Yes I agree . Dancing Digits are the worst . Most don’t even know what Mono Spaced means . Fortunately we have a Where to Go for them .

After much searching for a font i like for a design it is often the case that there is no mono spaced equivalent so i often resort to images for the numbers - but that appears to have difficulties when publishing for WFS

I’m about to use pictures for digits. What problem are you seeing?

I dont know or understand the reasons for a wfs watchface to fail publishing. But changing to a normal font allowed the watchface to publish.

This is not related to the zero or no zero topic. But I’m currently developing an app on the Apple watch. Many people tell me I should start with Android as it would be easier to get it up and running. But my concern is that the support for Android apps would be far greater than within the very controlled Apple watch environment. Even though it sounds like one Android operating system, there are so many different watch manufacturers that it makes support a little daunting.

I don’t know about @BIELITZ but they won’t pass WFF conversion for me.

@BIELITZ there is no reason why Images can not be used to stand in for text . Make sure the Images are not massive there is no reason why it would not publish . Try show us an example . You have to be carful with the formulas that Call them . The syntax rues are Tighter these days . Some times a Publication fails and an Hou later it Passes .
