I havent actually used Facer Creator to make WFF compatible faces because I have just continued to use WFS and then import the .aab to Facer without any issues at all. The only problem I have seen so far is the preview in the Facer app is static and there’s no power impact information.
Yes and we dont get the 5 seconds active preview . I have posted a few Imported .aab files but it seems Facer is not Favouring them . I get remarkably few syncs on them compared to Creator Faces . I am not complaining just Saying .
I think the biggest upside to WFS at the moment is the ability to still have toggles. That was a huge loss to Facer Creator. That being said, over the long run I think Facer will continue to develop and at some point we’ll get some form of toggles again. In the meantime, while I was initially really upset about this loss, I’ve also adjusted my mindset and pivoted to designing within the confines of the tools we do have. After 1000+ faces with toggles, it’s kind of fun to explore other concepts now
I also think that in general Facer will always prioritize supporting Facer, and they’ve said as much, in that while they try to accommodate import from WFS, I don’t think going forward a lot of resources are going into that as much as into developing the Facer platform itself. As they have made it known their goal is to continue to develop Facer as a cross-platform watch face app. So that faces made in creator will function on all the supported OSs, a list which is apparently growing. WFS faces will only ever work on WearOS watches. Not really a big factor at the moment, but we’ll see what happens. So it’s something to consider.
Toggles? for app launchers and to change an image? That’s about it in WFS isn’t it? I am not stuck on any particular system myself. I am happy to finally get here in Facer and I would love to eventually work exclusively within Facer. I have the utmost confidence that Facer will be able to seamlessly integrate with whatever WFF asks of it and also even find way to add features beyond what authoring in WFS can offer.
Are there any advantages that creator has over WFS, such as tags and ready made formulas?
When I use my WFS watchfaces they load and run super smooth no matter what I add to them. Does Facer add lag or delays?
I know one advantage is the publishing. It is really hard to get your faces on google play.
I don’t use either one anymore, I’m going my own way where Facer doesn’t limit me in anything. I can do WOS6 and everything Facer did in premium for free now and I don’t have to pay for it. It’s a lot more work, but the feeling of a functional watch face is priceless.
yeah, layer toggling is the biggie. My whole brand concept was practically built on analog designs with cosmetic customizations the user could toggle and with all the smart watch info hidden by default but integrated when toggled by the user. That’s all out the window with WFF now because WFF doesn’t support the VAR way of facilitating that. It looks like the “styles” (is that it?) in WFS can accomplish the same thing, but I’ve decided not to start down that path and I’m confident eventually Facer will figure out how to give us that functionality again. But we do have app launchers in Facer at least.
Facer would have to completely redesign the creator so that it would build a programmable watch face and not an XML format that only says what to draw but doesn’t know any functions. The system itself can do it. Just make a creator for that, I already have both a helper mini-app on the watch and a native application on the phone? Everything communicates beautifully with each other. It would be possible to make a creator too, but I’m probably too young for that, that would require a bunch of developers. But it’s definitely possible. The question is how would Google react if Facer bypassed them like this again and stopped using their declarative format for watch faces, in the name of saving energy…
Yeah, i show different layers on/off through the customization menu but it’s cumbersome and not simply executed by tapping the screen. I also think you’re right as far as the future. For the longest time, having something like built-in weather/custom weather icons seemed to be an impossibly in WFS but it was finally made available. So im hoping we’ll have VAR or something like it in the future for WFF.
Yeah, i wish I could code. I should have started when i was young as now my congealed, old brain cannot handle something like Android Developer. I over-heat just making companion apps using that.
Guys and ladies, you are not giving any compelling reasons to use Facer except for the watch face sharing bypassing the horrors of the Google Play Console.
I find AI quite useful but it is also incredibly dumb i give a really detailed prompt that even a 6 year old could understand, I’m not talking about making imaginary images but for example, put 12 dots around the circumference of a circle equispaced starting with zero degrees at the top.
My prompts were simple at the start but i soon learned that simple is NOT good and really detailed IS good.
Marvin save us please!
To your question.
I wanted to know what options are out there and tried Google and WFS and a few others. In this day and age, I expect a software to be easy to use and intuitive. I just did not find my way around with all other tools.
For Facer: In particular I like to see the elements on the right bar with its properties, the preview, to be able to switch between active and ambient easily, and the time machine at the bottom. I need all this to verify the watch is as I expect it to be.
