Upgrading to WearOS6 Options

Yes, Facer is automatically blocking faces that could work. Whatever their criteria of determining what faces will work or not is blanket across the platform. If you go into settings on your phone and change your watch to non OS6, the faces now show as available. FACER is systematically and on their own blocking the Faces. I have faces purchased through Google Play and have not been updated in a very long time that work just fine. Watchmaker is another app for faces that I have for years before transitioning to Facer and all those OLD faces still work just fine. At least let us attempt to send the face to our watches and see if they work.

See the attached screenshot of another app and how they notified their customers. Why did Facer not do the same? I’ve been a product director for over 10 years. I would have been fired if I did what Facer did, which is NOTHING.

I was not aware of that. I have created several thousand faces. Facer has not blocked any of them. As far as I know, the designers have been converting older designs for WFF compatibility. Maybe some type of blanket conversion would actually be a good thing for designers who do not have time to update their work.

As far as i know many watchfaces were automatically converted en masse - at least those that didn’t use the tags that don work with WFS. At the least that was the case with mine…but then again i don’t have the number of syncs like you guys

@BIELITZ
I haven’t checked on every one of mine since I have over 3K faces. But looking through the last year or so about half of mine have been automatically converted to WFF.

I wonder if it is just the free faces. Otherwise, Facer would eventually be left with a lot of incompatible faces that won’t work on all the updated and new watches.
Edit: I still cannot find a premium designer who had any faces automatically blocked.
So let’s not make general statements saying emphatically that “FACER is systematically and on their own blocking the Faces.” unless we have absolute facts on exactly what has been blocked(?) and why. I’ll await documentation.

nothing is “blocked”, and the idea of “let us try for ourselves” is uninformed. It is a simple fact that faces that are not in the WFF format will NOT work on WearOS 6 watches. But as has been said, Facer did a blanket auto conversion of the entire catalog. So just about every free face was already converted. Free faces on Facer do not have any of the features that are no longer supported by Google’s new mandated format, so they have no incompatibilities to prevent conversion.

BUT many or most Premium faces DO have extra features including features that ARE NOT supported by Google’s new format. Those faces can not be converted unless the designer manually edits them to remove the unsupported features, or in some cases, manually override the warnings when converting, and let it go out only partially working. OR, the designer rebuilds a new version modifying the functionality to conform with the WFF restrictions. This is a face by face decision by each designer. Facer as a whole can not make a blanket decision for each designer.

It’s simple in the end, faces that are not compatible with your OS are not made available because there is nothing a user can do to make them work. Try going to the Apple store and loading an Apple face on your Samsung watch, or plug your USB 2 into a USB-C slot. It’s essentially the same thing. If you want to call that blocked I guess that’s just semantics, but it’s just a matter of compatibility.

:smiling_face_with_three_hearts: Exactly!
Making uninformed statements in community forms and on social media is a good way to start rumors. That is unfair to Facer.
The only thing that I can think of that might be blanket converted on free designs would be the date.

You are right in your generalization, but I doubt every free face would be automatically converted. Maybe you correct me, if any of these nice niche functions even in free faces like #DWE#, #DSYNC#, #WSUNRISE#/#WSUNSET# or #PBN# would be supported by WFF. I know I have free faces that would need to be dumbed-down to work right on WFF watches.

Yes, I have manually had to remove those on free designs. The descriptions with the designs would need to be changed as well. This topic started with an incorrect assumption. It’s probably time to close this discussion.

that’s correct. Although that’s generally a small subset in the vast ocean of free faces.

The good thing about this community is that it allows discussion and criticism as well as help to all who need it. Personally, even if posts go off topic I think a topic will naturally close by itself. As long as it doesn’t turn nasty or insulting it’s ok - if it does then it needs to be flagged and taken down by Facer. We should all try to stay on topic i agree, but, I think there are very few here who haven’t wandered off topic at one time or another!

Oops - I’m off topic…

You are not off topic. You are speaking generally. However, it is probably time to start a new topic due to the 70-post length of this one.
All community members need to remember is to follow the rules and be nice to others. That includes not insulting other members (as you mentioned) and not insulting the sponsoring business or its business partners. One of the problems with social media and community forums is that when people get behind a keyboard they make comments without having the credentials or supporting documentation to back up their statements.
Topics don’t always “close” by themselves. New members search for information. That opens them again with comments that may be no longer relevant - especially for topics related to hardware and software.

I just updated my Galaxy6 Classic to One UI 8 and Wear OS 6 and the Facer app feels completely broken. None of the faces have any shortcuts anymore, and I can’t tripple tap the active Facer face to play the daily face roll game, switch to one my last 3 used faces, or load a larger collection of previously used or trending faces. The only way to see the trending faces now is by launching the Facer app. Is this the new normal or is something wrong on my end?

I replied to your other post.

It sucks, if we update old faces, those that havent updated their watch get screwed out of things they paid for. If we make new ones for those that HAVE updated, they get screwed by having to pay again.

I think the lesser of two evils is to update the older watches with as many workarounds as possible. Subscribers won’t get everything back, but at least they won’t have to repurchase.

So to say force the update on everybody and do what we criticize on google?

Did you not sign up for Facer’s news and progress reports regarding the updates? This was announced over 6 months ago.

Maybe this is my problem - I never saw this! What did it say about updates and consequences?

You make a fair point. Wear OS 6 has definitely created some frustrating situations, especially where certain faces lose features afterr updating. But it is not the case for everything. A lot already works well, and many faces can be updated or have already been adapted to the new platform. This kind of thing unfortunately comes with major platform changes, and I think Google is trying to balance performance, stability and capability. It is not ideal, but it is not really about people getting screwed, more about everyone having to adjust to a chnging system.
