We can't give up

I think @Linlay might be referring to Slack and or the Lounge here on this Community . I can assure everyone they are virtually dead these days . There is a forum for the Active Partners . Obviously that is exclusive . My guess is that is reasonably busy . I guess there is some sort of WEB Board Meeting a couple of times a year But I can not imagine there are 74+ ( as of news letter 2021 ) Seats at the table .

As I see it Instagram, Facer at FB, and Slack are in the realm of Facer’s “community” as well as this one. There used to be a lounge here that people would have access to after a certain number of posts, but I haven’t looked for that in a long time, so maybe the FB group replaced that.

Yes Of Course I Forgot Anti Social Media . Really useful for a Newbie those are .

You know whose fault that is, don’t you? When it comes to communities, you get out of it what you put into it. Edit: They have to be managed well, however – as a classroom.

I must say I have not been able to work out how to post something on the Facer Instagram . It seems little like a forum to me but an Opportunity for self promotion .

That’s pretty much it, but followers and likes etc. can be important for your résumé. I gave it a few years, but it took so much time that I didn’t feel that I was being as productive as I could be. I have not removed my account, so maybe I’ll get busy over there again someday.

I refuse to use either platform unless required to do so for my job as community liaison here, should it happen, then I would be in up to my proverbials.

FB&Instagram I consider way inferior to forum regarding searching for information. They keep showing what their AI thinks is relevant or popular instead what was asked. Maybe good for bling advertising announces, but nothing more.
Also Slack is not very user friendly, hiding messages older than 90 days behind paywall…

I was able to interact with followers via their messages and comments. IG platform enabled me to get more eyes and comments on my work, but I also got some strange-looking followers that I didn’t care to converse with. I found myself doing a lot of blocking that was too time consuming.

Yeah. that

Me too. But there on FB is the thing, whenever somebody new comes with the same question for uncounted times again, everybody is sick of it and either ignores or react hostile, not only because they suspect them of not searching properly. Even if I want to point them to an older discussion on the topic, I myself have trouble to find relevant post and I either have to repeat myself, or others, or search quite long, which both is annoying.

I totally agree. All that and the snark from the members who act like middle school children is unnecessary.

Never here though. We welcome them and point them to the relevant areas.
It is one other failure of the other Social Media platforms that they are just channels on already toxic, but immensely search upvoted platforms so people asking there may have found that as their first avenue of enquiry.
The next community liaison should recognise this and be able to reassure people on those platforms, while being immune, and polite to trolls and bile, that questions asked there are not stupid, just asked by new folks, and direct them to to correct answers to their questions.

For purely selfish reasons, direct them here!

The mere thought of using fb X tt or any other puerile social media makes me ill.

Social media platforms are swamped and flooded with trash and bot-created posts. Took me literally years to clean my personal FB account of all of that crap - can’t imagine what a group admin has to do to keep it clean. Been active in some groups like DIY synth and stuff, they’re well maintained by a hard-working mod team, though. Everything spam, political, religiotic etc. is cauterized as soon as it pops up. SO … it CAN work, but Facer on FB seems to me like a relentless “look at me new face” advertising platform with some lost discussion attempts in-between. Needs to be moderated with a vengeance. And yes, I AM entitled to my opinion - just to prempt those Yes-Men chiding me for speaking up against stuff.

Moderating has to be 24/7 with a team of human eyes in all time zones for it to be effective. Automated filters can be used in some cases, but they don’t pick up everything.

I’ve tried many times. I’m inclined to think that some people are lazy. They don’t want to be bothered searching.

Sadly, what I said :frowning: It’s doable in a FB group with 100 members and a strict COC, I don’t think it’s possible with thousands of members.

Unfortunately, unless a company is huge it isn’t be able to pay a team 24/7 just to moderate. Even huge companies supplement with qualified volunteer moderators.

Probably dedicated theme groups would do the trick. Like, for example, a “Watch Face Tech” group. No advertising allowed, nothing off-topic, just pure “how-to”? Dunno …
