It could be that Facer bots decided you’re not worth their time anymore, just in case you haven’t noticed it.
The timing does feel odd, maybe it’s just an algorithm change, but a bit more transparency would clear that up.
The way and the speed the charts react the algorithm must be the number of syncs on recent watches over a period probably a week ie between chart updates. To stay at the top your watchface must be getting the most syncs that week. I can’t see any other way it would work.
I’d say that Facer gives us the ability to post a donation button next to the face we publish, once you meet certain requirements. Just like they do on amazfit faces. I know not everyone can be a partner but that would be an incentive for our time and effort we put in.
That makes sense, but the fact we have to guess the algorithm shows how little visibility we have into how it actually works.
Even a high-level explanation (without revealing exact formulas) would help creators understand what drives success and improve their designs.
That would be nice for sure
Im afraid that would be a slippery slope for all the reasons i noted earlier
I don’t have a great explanation for that, maybe just because in the weeks after WFF compatibility was brought in it took a while for designers to catch up with that so now there are a lot more offerings out there competing for syncs. But… 100% Facer does not manually manipulate the charts.
The idea is that is an organic legit reflection of face performance. I think as soon as they were transparent about the algorithm you’d have a bunch of people trying to figure out how to game the system.
the bottom line is, there are a lot of really talented designers, and even more mediocre ones, but I think the only thing you can do is control what’s in your hands, and that is simply to continue to develop your brand and produce quality faces that are not like what anyone else is doing. I can assure you that standout designers ARE noticed, if not by Facer then by other partners who bring them to the attention of Facer. And in the end that standout quality is likely the only thing that matters at this point, not syncs or charts. But as I said before, there has to be a position open before a spot is offered, so timing plays a role too. It does seem like perhaps there’s a window now or soon though. Just my opinion.
Facer has a path for you to meet certain requirements to monetize. It is by being invited to participate in the partner program,
I’m aware of that, but not everyone makes it to the partner program even meeting the expected Facer criteria. For those left out I meant it.
It’s a nice idea but in reality why would a for-profit business offer an easy way for customers to choose to give their money to someone else instead of them?
If you mean the premium charts, I’m fairly certain that’s the case. In the past, you would often see non-partners appear in the Top 100 premium charts (myself included). Things seemed to shift after the “long press to preview” feature was introduced, which was made available only for partner premium faces (please correct me if I’m wrong).
For non-partners, that preview option isn’t enabled, so users can’t easily try a design before syncing it. Naturally, this leads to fewer syncs and makes it harder for non-partner designs to rank in the Top 100. My impression is that this was a deliberate business decision by Facer to strengthen partner visibility — and I can understand that. If I were a partner, I’d value that extra support as well.
I don’t know the details of that, but it’s also possible that if this is the case (that the long-press preview doesn’t work) it’s probably because only partner made premium faces can be bought individually. all premium faces are available in subscription. But you are also correct that Facer does indeed do a lot to strengthen partner visibility, for obvious reasons, and we certainly appreciate it. I understand the frustration of looking from the outside in on this, I experienced that myself for a long time too, but again, it totally makes sense.
It’s not like it’s gonna take business away from them, some people want to buy watch faces others just want to donate. Anyways it’s just my humble opinion.
I agree that standing out is important and I do focus on creating unique faces.
What still feels strange to me is that when you apply for Partner and hear nothing back, you have to assume you were rejected. That lack of feedback makes it hard to know what to improve.
Honestly, I hadn’t even thought about these issues before joining this discussion, but it’s been a bit demotivating. I’m now even wondering how to pause or deactivate my account if I decide to take a break.
That may not be in your best interest if you have applied for partner. Considering that you are fairly new and that Facer is probably looking for people who consistently stay active, don’t let this discussion get you down.
I agree that there needs to be some type of feedback to let you know that your application was received - even if it is an automated reply.
I also do it for fun, I make all the graphics myself, I rarely reach for something from the internet, only when I want to create a background that I’ve drawn. I strive for quality and especially readability, so I follow the rule that less is sometimes more. I would appreciate the possibility of creating themes even in the free version. Then you unnecessarily make several watch faces, each with a different color, only to find that out of the 6, only 4 are synchronized and the remaining two have 0 even after several months. Then as for the Top100, it’s mainly about who has how many followers, it’s really not about anything else. I get there sometimes and it always makes me happy. As with the last creation, published one day ago.
I probably wouldn’t want to be a partner, but I would like to use the PRO features for free watch faces as well. Except for premium.
Hi Facer Creators,
We’ve heard your feedback and understand the frustration and confusion surrounding the Partner Program, and we’d like to share some information to help address concerns as best we can.
If you’re interested in joining the program, you can apply here https://www.facer.io/creator/partner
We’ve received hundreds of applications, and while we’re excited to see so much interest, it has meant that processing applications has taken longer than expected. We sincerely apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience — things will become faster and more streamlined over time.
While not everyone will be accepted immediately, you can re-apply after 30 days, and we’ll be happy to review your application again.
Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts with us — we’re always listening and looking for ways to improve the process for everyone.
