What is it with gradients?

I’ve noticed gradient background seem to be pretty popular. Is it because it isn’t “basic” - It is a simple process to create but I notice A LOT of basic faces with a simple gradient being popular. Is there a formula to popularity and love of colors-schemes I am not tracking? I’m very new to this but I am looking for any feedback to gradients, color schemes, and feedback. Here is an example of one of mine, but the top faces often have several.

Some users are disappointed if the Face is not Full Colour . Many like an ECO face without . What you must remember is Popularity means you are appealing to the Median . My advice is to make what you like and let your following grow naturally . Some study the most popular Faces and make the same . You can see them plainly they have all the bits on them but they Lack Soul .

Awesome, thank you. I’ve only been at this about a month and I have weird obsession about matching clothes, shoes, and now watch bands and faces so it kind of comes naturally, but I cannot figure out the weird busy faces that are barely readable and crazy color schemes, but that’s okay we like what we like…I’ll just keep doing what I am doing…I got a pretty serious full-time job so this is my outlet to create something… I appreciate your reply.

You can’t please everyone all of the time so why even bother trying; just design whatever pleases you and have fun doing so

For sure! So far so good. I am happy to sport whatever it is I want to wear that day, but it is nice to see I am not alone in wanting simple design…it’s just so weird all that busy non-sense, how the heck do you even read half of them? or is it not about having a watch that functions anymore?! LOL

I love animations, as some might recall ahem, but I also love minimalist simplicity -

For sure. Simplicity is what I’ve tracked for over a year before venturing out to create my own. I can’t deal with the tiny business and haven’t broached animation myself, but even something as small as a gradient background seems to get ya more notice. Not really looking for a following, but it gives some credibility to my work …so that is nice…I will plug on and hope someone out there found something they like. <3

I mostly design what I would like to wear on my wrist, which is dark, analogue faces. This doesn’t get a lot of sync’s in the grand scheme of things so I look and try to see what is looking popular and try designs that might appeal to the masses.

Lo and behold, sometimes I design something I think might be popular and I end up liking it so much I start wearing it!

As already mentioned above just do what you like, unless you receive a specific request. Sometimes the public will give you a good idea that will do quite well. On the other hand… when I was doing art shows, the joke among the artists was that inevitably no matter how long you worked on a project, there will always be a customer who walks up and says, “Do you have it in purple (or some color you don’t have or don’t like)?”

I managed to make the face I wanted on a smart watch after 5 Years . I wear it most of the time . I still get a buzz making Faces and checking out the Work of my Friends . Stay in the Niche and keep your self respect .

So true. I was having a difficult time finding color schemes I enjoyed together with an easy to read design that looked polished. Hence me starting to make my own things. I had never really thought to ask someone to make something specific for myself, but I have had a request or two since I started… and yes, it does get quite carried away.

Those are quite complex. Thank you for the advice and encouragement. I’ll keep doing what I want and admire those that do it better.
