Why are some watch faces with "Casio" on the dial tolerated, while others are not?

Hi all,

And again 2 faces down, without any brand names?

I’ve noticed that some watch faces featuring the word “Casio” on the dial remain published without any issues, while others get taken down fairly quickly. There are quite a few examples of faces that still display the Casio name and seem to be tolerated.

This raises the question: is there a consistent policy being applied here? Or are we seeing a case of double standards depending on the design, visibility, or reporting?

Would love to get some clarity on this, especially for those of us trying to understand where the line is drawn when referencing legacy designs or classic inspirations.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, I noticed this as well.

Most of those faces were created long time ago. Probably before the Bot became more clever or was taught more brands. Should those creators edit and republish, then they may be taken down.

This happened with my watch face called M-Power. I published it more that a year ago, no problem. I made some changes, republished it and it was taken down.

Others may have “Casio” as a picture and not text.

At least those with obvious copyright infringements in the top hundreds shouldbe taken down by the tea lady

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciated.

In my case, I actually didn’t use any real brand names or trademarks, all the text was entirely fictional or fantasy-based. So if a takedown still happens, it seems we’re now entering the territory where design resemblance alone might be enough to flag a watch face.

That’s a bit worrying, because it means even homage designs without any direct references are at risk. It would be really helpful to understand what the current boundaries are, especially for creators who intentionally avoid using real brand names.

If one brand was to copyright a panda face - that would be the end of a very profitable business in Switzerland, Japan, south Korea and a few other places. So i don’t think it’s going to happen!

Yes, I share your concern. I no longer give my watch faces any meaningful or cool names…
