About new creator and WOS6

Hi Guys
I’ve had a bit of a difficult time, I’ve moved house with a consequent move, and I’ve been away from Facer for a long time. Now, God willing, we are almost back to normal and I have started attending the community again.
The big news I found was the new Creator and the supposed compatibility of the new watches with Facer. The excitement was huge at first, but as I read the posts, it slowly faded.
Let’s see if someone can help me understand:

  1. I have to choose the project type (WOS; WOS6; Tizen) before starting, correct?
  2. I understand that many of the old tags (VAR; Chrono; etc.) don’t work with the new watches even if I choose WOS6, correct?
  3. I can’t take my old project and patiently adapt it to the new system. Correct?
If that’s the case, it’s not time to upgrade to GW8 yet.
My WFs would be incompatible, and the ones on the Play Store are so bad that I wouldn’t want them for free, much less paid.
Will there be hope by patiently redesigning the old WFs and adapting them to the new system that everything works?
For now I will continue to remain at the window

Hi my Friend . Things will change a bit for WFF publications but not much . Creator for WFF is going to fall inline more with WFF . I do not intend to let my GW5 pro Update to WOS6 . I have spent too much time wearing and working om my Personal face . Sadly I will probably not make any new faces on Facer , they will be too dumbed down for me . If they bring all the stuff that WFS has it will be better but only Half is not enough . Glad you move is done OK .

I have a question too - what happens if i don’t ‘upgrade’ to the creator beta version and dont update my GW5PRO ? Will the good life continue for me?
Okay that was 2 questions but hey…

If you choose not to update to a newer Wear OS version, you may also want to turn off automatic updates for the Facer app, since future updates could potentially drop support for native Facer features.

Good idea!

I am not sure how this is intended to work after beta is over, but for now, you can select preferred OS, but only apple templates differ from the rest, which are then same for all round watches.
If you pick any of the round ones, the final face may be accessible for all 3 categories of them. As you add elements that are not compatible with some of the platforms, you will be notified, which would no longer be fully supported and by which component. You are allowed to add battery percentage text for example, but the all green check mark will change to blue info for WOSwithWFF.

Yes, even the premium things are not supported by WOSwithWFF so far.

You can adapt it, as I call it, by dumbing-down to the supported minimum, which, depending on complexity of your old face, can lead to perfectly functional or cripled face. I think no patience will overcome some trouble like the lack of programmables and stopwatch support in WFF.

What concerns me is the thought of waking up one morning and discovering that the Facer face that I built some years ago for my for my Galaxy Watch 6 classic no longer works.

My face uses only the free/standard components from Creator (as it was back then), but all this business with WOS, WOS6, Creator updates, etc. makes me think there’s at least a reasonable chance that something bad will happen unexpectedly.

I’m thinking I should turn off all automatic updates - including Samsung ones - until such time as things settle down and reach some point of stability.

I am really certain that Facer will continue to support your Legacy GW6 . They have supported TIZEN Faces all these years . BUT you make the decision to switch off automatic update . Sadly I think if the watch was Reset the update to WOS6 would not be optional .
I have spent too much time on my Private Face to go back to Dumbed Down . My Private Face has 155 issues in WFF . Fixing them would strip it down to the Bones .

Excellent point - thanks. Since owning my GW6 I’ve only had to do a hard reset once, and that was related to one of the changes Facer made. I really don’t recall all the details, but the reset ended up being the only way I could get the watch to work with Facer and my face.

For now I will turn off all automatic updates and hope the dust settles sometime soon.

Sadly . Google have put Facer in a position where there is no going back . But I feel strongly that Facer will do their best to preserve the Library for those of us that will or can not update to WOS6 . It is interesting to me that the Current Watch Companion app includes Legacy in the Title . The companion App number on my Tizen is 5.20.21 . A little different from 7.0.53_11132402.wear_legacy_watch.leg What I mean is I hope Facer can send the right Companion to the legacy watches . But of course may be not as Tizen is just a Different OS . May be those under WOS6 will be counted as a different OS which it is .

If you only use free and simple elements, then I think you’ll barely notice any difference in the WFF conversion.

It is ultimately up to Samsung and Google. I’m sure Facer will do their best to preserve as much as possible, but if you never update your watch, then it will likely eventually not be able to run up to date versions of Facer…I think ‘leaning in and adjusting as required’ is the best approach. That’s coming from someone who used VAR/sounds/ animations in virtually all of my faces.

Yes . Sadly the part om my private watch I am most proud of is a Live Wind Direction Compass . I have stuff linked to Sunrise Sunset as well that are important to me . It is the culmination of a long journey . I wonder if I was told at the begining I was making something that I would have to scrap one day would I have put so much energy into it .
Thanks for your contribution here . I personaly feel more partners could show up .

I definitely feel that and am still annoyed with Google despite my approach haha at least we’ve gotten to enjoy making those incredible things even if one day we need to move onto other incredible things

It’s been quite a while since Google gave up it’s “First do no evil” mantra. Considering how large their footprint is now it’s fairly clear we can expect more situations like this one.

I keep say that an Artist can make Art with the Palette he is given . May be it will be as exciting with the new chalanges . WFS has some cool stuff but Face really made it for me . I think Watchmaker has Shut the door .

Hi Russel @russellcresser
I agree with you. I also spent a lot of time creating my personal WFs and I hate the idea of losing them. I won’t update either the watch or Facer, hoping everything goes well, even though the last time the watch updated itself without asking me if I wanted to update or not.
I checked, and automatic updates were disabled. I don’t know why that happened.
Out of habit, I disable automatic updates on both my PC and Watch; Tablets; and Phone. I hate them. I want to know what an update does before installing it.
As for the rest, I’ve already skipped 7, and if things continue like this, I’ll skip 8 as well.
Damn Google and Samsung for following suit.

Hi @petruuccios
Thanks for your reply. You’ve completely confirmed my doubts. It changes, it changes, but in the end, nothing has changed.
I have too many personal WFs that I don’t want to waste by getting into this mess.
I’ll simply do without new watches. At least until my Watch 6 Classic breaks.

Yes, it’s possible for manufacturers or Google to push updates even with auto-updates disabled. The only real way to prevent this is to keep the watch disconnected from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to avoid forced OTA updates.
