Connecting an Updated Galaxy Watch 5 to OneUI8 / WearOS6

oh yeah? I always hate that they forced us to reset the watch everytime we reset the phone or get a new one. it’s already bad enough to reset a phone but to do the watch at the same time and it don’t always put the non Facer, watch faces back on and i have to hunt the store to redownload them again. at least with Facer it holds all the faces in the Facer app. I"m looking forwards to getting a Galaxy S25 Ultra in March. hopefully Verizon still has them marked down. i saw somewhere that Samsung is trying ot get rid of old stock. I have read that the Galaxy S23 Ultra is still as good as the newer ones.

I have this phone to this day (3 years) and still a very strong phone, not one scratch on, no hiccups whatsoever. Still a strong competitor in 2026

I have an s23 Ultra as well. I love it!!!

Hi @mrantisocialguy
This is what’s supposed to happen, but it doesn’t always happen. I had to replace my S20+ because It fell on the floor and damaged the screen. I asked support how much it would cost to replace the screen, but I gave up because they were crazy. €220 to replace the screen. On a 5-year-old phone!!
I was thinking of buying an S22 or S23, but then I found an S25 FE on Amazon IT for €491, so I bought that. Incidentally, this offer lasted one day, then the price went up to €598.
But here comes the best part.
As suggested by Smart Switch, I chose to transfer my GW8 Classic to the new phone. The process started, but after a while, it stopped and an error message appeared. I tried and tried, but to no avail. At a certain point, I selected the “Restore” option and everything went smoothly.
As @mesocyclone30 said, however, another problem arose.
The watch was paired, yes, but like a new watch. So I had to not only set up the phone, but also reset the watch from the scratch.
A real hallucination.

I’m sorry you had so much of an issue. I updated from a S10e to my S23 and everything went nice and smooth including my watches, all 4 of them. I bought a new tablet the year after and used the Smart Switch to clone the tablet. Now I can copy text using my tablet, and my phone has that text copied and I can paste it inside the phone. That is very handy.

I agree with you. I’ve used Smart Switch before without any problems, but I was unlucky. This time it went badly. Now I have to transfer the GW 5 pro and 6 classic.
Let’s see what happens
I have only one nightmare. If I had to restore them too, I’m terrified that they’d go to WOS 6 or whatever the hell it’s called.

I wanted to update you on something strange happening when transferring watches to the new S25 FE with One UI 8
I started transferring the GW 5 Pro and everything went smoothly. The watch transferred without any issues.
I then switched to the GW6 Classic, and that’s where the problems began. I started the transfer, but at a certain point the message “To transfer the watch to the new smartphone, the watch will be reset.”
As with the GW8 Classic, it is not transferred as is, but as a new watch.
At this point, I stopped everything. Not because I would have to redo all the settings. It’s annoying, but I would do it again. But rather because I’m afraid that resetting the watch will automatically install the latest firmware.
What do you think? Would the latest firmware be installed if I restore?
I have cancelled the transfer at the moment, I don’t dare to go any further.
Thanks to damn Google, I now find myself with yet another inconvenience. Not only do I have to live with the constant notification that an update is available, but the even worse problem is that if I want to use the old Facer faces on the 6 Classic, I have to use my old phone, which luckily I hadn’t thrown away.
ABSURD!!!
In any case, I don’t understand why it worked with the 5 Pro and not with the 6 Classic. Just like it did with the 8 Classic.

Yeah oh Dear . So it is not transfer the Watch as it is . But transfer the watch data to your watch which will be have its OS updated . They are so determined to update all the watches . I cannot believe they went all the way back to GW4 which they don’t support any more . I hope they offer support for a few months . Sadly I have no good advice to offer you since I was not clever enough to avoid the UPDATE . I am working on WFS at the moment . I hope they give us some of the smart stuff Facer had at some stage .

Sadly I’m afraid that WearOS 6 and WFF are unavoidable. Or like they say in the Star Wars realm “Resistance is Futile”! I finally gave up and updated all my watches. At least I can decide what I will or won’t have in my watchface from the choices I have available to use.

I’m actually loving it. I can design in Facer Creator or in WFS. The complications in WFS can be set to open the App of my choice. I usually have one set to open my music and WhatsApp. I know it is hard for all those that used all the extra features in Facer, that are now gone.

Hi mates @russellcresser @mrantisocialguy

Finally some light after so much darkness.
I realized it wasn’t just a matter of choosing faces on the old phone. Yes, okay, but I would have had an unusable watch because it wasn’t connected to the phone I use in real life.
So, reluctantly, I decided to restore the GW6.
And here finally a stroke of luck. During the restore and pairing process it offered to recover a backup, and so I did.
At the end of the process I had my GW6 paired and with all my settings and old faces working.
The only thing was, I made sure it was disconnected from the Wi-Fi. As Russ suggested, I deleted the network.
It seems incredible, but it worked. As an added bonus, if it lasts, I no longer even have the annoying, undeletable notification that a new update was available.
I hate not being able to decide what to do with MY things. I bought the watch, so it’s mine and not Samsung’s.
It’s an injustice that they decide for me.
In any case, they are in good company. See Windows for example.
The saga isn’t over, though. Now I have to match 3 and 1. Fingers crossed.

Oh well done @diavo . So we know one Rebel . I did a Cache Clearance and forgot the WiFi could set itself up from the Data on my Phone . Any way as @mrantisocialguy said It is almost inevitable but as @kallyjeen41 says there is some bonus stuff on WFS . As Creative Artists we can work with Restrictive Palets . I have a feeling that the work of Vincent Van Gogh became so distinctive because they took away his brushes as he Drank the Spirit used for cleaning them .

Yes, but I caught two ducks with one shot.
GW 6 old FW old faces
GW8 new FW new faces
I would say that I have the best of two worlds

I have a watch that is still using WearOS. When I want to wear it, I just turn off my Watch8 so my phone doesn’t get confused.

sadly mine just got a one inch scratch last week and i am always so careful to not put it with anything that would scratch it. i don’t know if it’s worth the trouble to get it fixed or replaced under insurance so close to upgrading to a new one come March. i’m with Verizon in the US. i never got around to getting a screen protector as every one I had with the previous phones makes the fingerprint reader unusable. i miss when there was a fingerprint reader on the back like the Galaxy S9.

Not really, just have to press a bit harder. But I don’t use screen protectors anyway. Even though I should.
