Rest In Peace Facer

It is with great sadness that I announce the untimely passing of Facer. After a long illness caused by Samsung & Google viruses, Facer has passed away.
A prayer.
I have been part of the Community since 2020 and I can say that, unfortunately, the fervor that animated the Community has died down. The first thing I did in the morning was to look at the new posts, There were so many that it took time. Many of these posts were enlightening, because they provided ideas/solutions on how to implement various functions in the Watch Faces. A real buzz.
Unfortunately, the enthusiasm has been waning for a while now. Most of the latest posts were “Show your style”; “Design Showcase” and so on. Frankly of little or no interest. If I want to see some watch faces I go to Browse>Recent and I see all the faces I want.
Now, there aren’t even these useless posts anymore. For days and days when I open the community page the “Latest” category is desolately empty. It’s a real shame!! A great Community reduced to ashes by Google and Samsung’s policy.
What’s worse is that it seems that @Facer has done and is not doing anything to solve the problem.
Maybe they are happy to sell some Face on Google Play.
Too bad!! For my part I will continue until my Smart Watches, Galaxy 1 - 3 - 5 Pro - 6 Classic are supported, after which I will look for a different hobby. As I said I have not bought and will not buy the new Samsung. I have SW for life, so I can avoid buying new ones. Yes, I liked to treat myself to the latest toy, but I can live without it. I will treat myself to something else.
That is unless Samsung & Google fix the situation.
I have low expectations regarding Facer.
Greetings

I am also an avid reader and am disappointed when the latest section is empty BUT this community is and has been a fantastic resource for many. Your post is completely unnecessary and does not in my opinion represent the current environment here in the community in anyway shape or form
If you think nothing is going on here you are mistaken.
I rarely see you here - perhaps you are more active on Facebook i dont know so I cant comment.
It would be great if more people contributed instead of leaving it to a few dedicated people.

I have been doing this for about 4 years now . I think many of us started about the same time . I think a lot of those were delighted to be able to make something at all . Lots of learning to do as it was all new . Facer was giving us new stuff to play with on New Watches . I find now days the Drive is to make stuff that will Sell on one platform or another . I am sure the Partners have a Dynamic Forum sharing ways to use Shaders and Sounds . I think a lot of the New Makers have latched on to the other Platforms that are Easier to Sell on .
But @diavo please Hang on with us to see what happens .

I think this is only logical, given the amount of public features is finite and not expanding last few years, while the topics covering them gradually fill the gaps in knowledge, so there is less and less challenges remaining. Same like it is harder and harder to mine new bitcoins

There is really little that one can do, when two big corporations unite to close a gap on market and push towards monopoly. I doubt Facer would do nothing, but I understand it may seem like that, because there are no news about this case for quite long time.

I will try to keep my Gear S3 Frontier alive as long as possible, to maintain access to Facers fast and easy watchface deployment to the watch (I even took S23 phone instead S24 as replacement for my old S7, since they do not support it on new devices from 2024).
I hope if you find good alternative, you wont keep it secret (private messages work here), I was not succesfull yet

And lastly, I think it is good to have multiple hobbies and watch faces are just one of them. The others maybe not so time intensive and give not that strong feedback, but maybe its better this way, so the addiction can vane one day too.

I’m still sad about leaving Facer…

Many people, me included, were forced to use Watch face Studio.
I don’t think Facer do not want to keep up, I think it just cannot be done.
Nobody can fight Samung/Google.

On the other hand I do resent the fact Facer ignored for years our requests for new tags, for better usage of complications and other things we asked for.

Many really, really good designers gave up on Facer because no one can became partner any more.

Hi @BIELITZ

I wanted to be provocative. I join the community every day, but I only intervene if I have something useful to say. I don’t like interventions as an end in themselves. Facer? No thank you. I hate “Unsocial”

Hi everyone,
I don’t know of any other way other than Facer.
In this community, I, a simple beginner, have learned a lot and, with the support of several members.
The Facer app is not cheap for me, but it is worth it and, without this community, I would not be learning absolutely anything!!!
Think about it, my friend!!!

Hi @petruuccios
If I remember correctly, you were one of those who helped me several times with my requests for formulas for a WF. I agree with you.
I personally made, for my own use, more than 500 Faces and… I got to the point where I stopped. I simply did not know what to do anymore. :astonished:
A dial is a dial and hands are hands, so after having experimented with all the possible variations that a watch can offer I got stuck. I did not know what else I could do.
Alternatives to Facer? I wish I had some. At the moment, unfortunately, I don’t have any alternatives, but if I find one I will not fail to inform you.
Well, there would be an alternative, the one that has undertaken @masterboyhr and is Watch Face Studio, but…maybe I’m just too lazy, but I really don’t want to start from scratch with a whole bunch of new tags and formulas.

Maybe it needs another challenge?
In the past there were a few, and I kind of like the idea to then see what people come up with…

There was one which said to only use standard Facer elements. That was before my time here. Amazing watch faces collected by @rob.fisk :

Yes, it really is pain in the a**.
Everything is different. And there are no watchfaces “open for inspection” where one can learn from.
WFS forum kinda works but not as good as this forum, not even close.

And I miss publishing watchfaces. It’s a nice bonus when someone else can enjoy your watchface.

In conclusion, there is no real alternative to Facer. I really, really hope Facer will survive.

@diavo and @masterboyhr . I personaly belive there is a Move on WFS to bring some of the Facer Community Ethos . It is possible to share a watchface . In which case it can be saved on your PC and downloaded onto your watch any Time you wish . Any Tag Formula is easily ported to WFS . There are People on ther that can port them easily . Curved Text and Boolean Masking is something Facer will never have . I have been working with Bit Mapped Fonts on there . It could even be used for animations . Sadly Publishing on the Google Store is something else . They have made it Impossible . But if you are a Hobbyist and fancy making something different it is worth putting in the time . Th biggest drawback is it is impossible to do smooth scrolling on WFS . It is becoming very difficult to do smooth scrolling on Facer as well . These are Power saving strategys to stop people moaning about Battery Drain . On that subject Facer is doing very well to get Drain Down .

This community has been a huge inspiration for me. Everything I know, is thanks to this community and a handful of awesome designers. @ of which have already commented in this thread. Those are Russell & Tom. You guys are awesome. Every single one of my designs are made with Free Facer Creator, so I don’t have any fancy VAR’s or shyte like that. Thank you guys!

Community forums were around years before so-called “social media”. It appears that for various reasons some people now prefer Facebook, Instagram, etc… If you like the community format, support it. As for Facer’s business, your diagnosis seems premature.

While they can not do much against Google policy, they do some other minor things, for example more self explanatory button for inspectable faces, which is good and I only noticed it today

Peter, where did you find that “inspect in Facer Creator” button???

I don’t see it. Cannot find it.

@masterboyhr if you try go the ,‘normal’ way to open an inspectable watch for inspection in stead of clicking on the watch name to open it you will see the new button at the bottom of the preview

It works for me

Yes, looks like the rocket was removed and now there is a link below the watch face:

Oh, thank you, it’s shown only if the watchface is open for inspection. Of course, logical.
Silly me. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

It’s new.
