As a user of both Facer and Watchmaker I have to say I like watchmaker more due to their lack of a splash screen on the watch like facer has. I don’t want to see the ad every time I switch to facer or switch watches.
I personally love challenges! That, for me, is what makes it fun
I’m ready!
I have been trialing Watch Face Studio, not because I want to move away but just to check out other options and count my blessings here. And make informed comments of course.
Not having the splash screen is terrible as, from the watch, you cannot see that anything is happening. I like to see the logo and progress bar as it tells me that the watch is processing the change.
WFS does have some nice things like groups and bitmap fonts (though that is just like the image stack in Facer) but falls short in so many other ways.
Really hoping for a Facer/WearOS accord.
I love the app and reaaly hope there is a way around the new Google system where the watch faces can still be used inside the app the way it is used now. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Watch7 Ultra and traded it in for a Watch6 so I could still use the app, the new system is coming soon anyway )):
Newbie here. Just wondering which platform to start. Given the discussions above, I’m not sure which is better (Facer or Watchmaker or whatever) …however one defines “better”. I’m just interested in seeing if I can create a custom watch face. Certainly like to be on a platform that allows inspection to help learning. So perhaps my question, which is the best platform to help someone to learn?
Here is the best place to be and Facer is easy to learn - you will soon be making exciting watches and many here leave inspection on on their watches so you can see how things are done
Most questions have been asked and answered here. Try first and ask if you get stuck.
Welcome by the way@
Yup great place to learn! The contributors to this community are the only thing that makes Facer worthwhile, especially for newbies.
I’ve tried a 1 or 2 different platforms, but I found Facer to be more flexible, easier to use, and I am able to use my base infrastructure as I wish, which is Apple based. I am only dependent on an Android phone for the watch initial installation (which has nothing to do with Facer…)
Some may argue, that you cannot make money with Facer, unless you are partner, and that other platforms support a higher resolution.
But, this community taught me a lot, you can find lots of resources here, and you can find good tutorials. There are a lot of Facer creators, besides the partners, who publish really amazing watch faces - and even open up inspection for you to see how it is done!
And as said, this is where you get the most help when you get stuck.
The community will not design a watch face for you, nor solve all your problems, but will point you in the right direction.
Sometimes things will turn into larger discussions and complex mathematical equations are a result. I think that is pretty cool!
So have fun!
Nice Summary Tom .
Yup. This is definitely the place to start for ease, community, support and feedback on your own journey. I also have tried others but keep coming back here.
Money, shmoney. I just want to make stuff.
Yeah . It is about Creativity and Community . It would be Better to get a job with a Large Company . I can not imagine that Facer Distribute its profits equally to all the partners . One year they Published in the News Letter that they shared $1000000 among 250 Partners . I make that 4k . Most will be earning twice that a month . Having said that . I think the whole Facer thing is unique . Including the possibility to Post as many Faces as Faces as you can make them in the Swamp ( Fresh Faces )
Much thanks all.
You are welcome. And also, welcome. Pick your semantics, or your pedantics (ooh, that will get the pedants but it rhymes ;)
What is discouraging is that we don’t get regular updates. Seeing that the last note in the conversation is from six months ago does not raise enthusiasm or hope. What’s the CURRENT story?
The CURRENT story is that they hired a guy who may or may not be there to try and sort it but are probably on a Parter only, maybe not only them NDA to give us details.
This is, in some ways understandable but complete silence all other issues not so much.
I wish I knew more. We all do.
Well, wouldn’t surprise me that a tech company born out of tech nerdyness over-scaled to a point where it would be necessary to empty the coffers to hire some support staff - which would eat away at the revenue. It’s business as usual. Please take into account that human intelligence is declining rapidly at the moment, DIY is waning, people want the fast track: insert money, get your gadget and forget it.
What is your source of information?
Well, that We have heard nothing here for 6 months since the official announcements on WearOs5 Oob.
Then this was posted a while back with supporting news link:
The use of speculation is how false rumors get started. I do not agree with what you are implying, but you are entitled to your opinion.
I imply nothing, I assure you, and this is not a rant, just honest concern, because I like it here, I really do. Just saw this circle a few times before, and it wasn’t really the start-up’s/company’s fault but a genuine catch-22 plus a out-of-bound tech industry that devours anything that’s is NOT literally sh&/(ng money. Taxes, interest and generally inflation can really sink many a ship. But they’re hiring again, it seems. Which is a good sign, isn’t it?
