I tried my hand at font making using Fontstruct too. I made a wide font and corresponding vertical version:

I cloned another for basic point of reference but completely re-designed it. It was originally a 3x4 font and I made it 4x5, re-did all the curves etc.

Votes for removing the 3 veryical/horizontal gaps from the font? They kind of mess up the vertical versions of the letter T and a few others.
Oh, I can just change the direction of the gaps on the vertical ones to fix that. Let me do that first.
