We can't give up

Social media platforms are swamped and flooded with trash and bot-created posts. Took me literally years to clean my personal FB account of all of that crap - can’t imagine what a group admin has to do to keep it clean. Been active in some groups like DIY synth and stuff, they’re well maintained by a hard-working mod team, though. Everything spam, political, religiotic etc. is cauterized as soon as it pops up. SO … it CAN work, but Facer on FB seems to me like a relentless “look at me new face” advertising platform with some lost discussion attempts in-between. Needs to be moderated with a vengeance. And yes, I AM entitled to my opinion - just to prempt those Yes-Men chiding me for speaking up against stuff.

Moderating has to be 24/7 with a team of human eyes in all time zones for it to be effective. Automated filters can be used in some cases, but they don’t pick up everything.

I’ve tried many times. I’m inclined to think that some people are lazy. They don’t want to be bothered searching.

Sadly, what I said :frowning: It’s doable in a FB group with 100 members and a strict COC, I don’t think it’s possible with thousands of members.

Unfortunately, unless a company is huge it isn’t be able to pay a team 24/7 just to moderate. Even huge companies supplement with qualified volunteer moderators.

Probably dedicated theme groups would do the trick. Like, for example, a “Watch Face Tech” group. No advertising allowed, nothing off-topic, just pure “how-to”? Dunno …

Implied, if not implicit ;-)

Now, I am good at that stuff. During Cambridge Analitica where you could download your history for the first time I did so. It said it could take days. It took 20 minutes.
There were 2 FB posts in my history.

  • Welcome to FB
  • Your 7 year FB Anniversary

It’s getting harder to do personal only posts though, or was before I went away.

Yes, automated flags to human moderators help but AI is trained on the content and so a fully automated system can be flooded to see what gets through and slowly train it to accept a wider band.

I was referring to the tone of posts.

Yes, that one is harder to moderate automatically. But, in a community environment, such as here we have every member as a moderator in a way. That is harder on other platforms.

I am not saying there have not been problems with certain people over the last few years but it can be dealt with among members or taken to the facer moderators, without having to rely on a 3rd party if the handbasket descends too far and you are waiting for bureaucracy to save you while the cable is burning.

It’s a balancing act, I know. I understand. I’m asking the questions so people can see the answers and, so far it is working.

@Linlay , Thankyou.

Many have Mod Flags now, but even in that case member history and context have to be discerned. I think the best thing to do here is to let whoever is the new mod do his job according to the guidelines that have been set up by admin. If there is a question, flag it as usual or send a ticket. Praying for that person might help as well.

I just read the rest of your post and noticed the burning cable. Good metaphor! Regarding the job description check the hours involved. Keep praying…

Not mea culpa.

Have never, ever got a response from submit a ticket other than the automated “we have your ticket”

So other, Facer only channels to ‘Actual Facer’ are still dead’

Back in the day - way back - when I was doing my thing we were removing Facebook stuff from computers because at that time it was considered malware. One day a customer said to me, “I can’t remove that. My daughter uses that.” Such a trusting parent that guy was. I wonder if he still feels the same.

I fondly remember ICQ and the roflcopter mass kicking events  but that’s most def off topic sorry. The world was simpler back then.

So an FB page with a profile the pics and vids but a link to here or just facer.io, lock chat there.
I’m not saying deny presence on social media, I am saying deny random comment on social media and link here and the main site

Yes, use it for a showcase, but send the discussion to here. I suggested that when things got toxic in the FB group, but there was no change. I never found any guidelines or a code of conduct for this community, but at least staff would have only one discussion site to handle.
