What is the purpose of creating 1k faces?

I know it is a stupid question, but I’ve seen designers making 1k + faces with no remuneration. i know the goal of most of designers is to make it into the partner program but in my opinion I’d stop at 100 to 200 faces if i get not picked.

I’ve made over 3k faces since 2019 and I do it for fun. I don’t want to be a partner and would turn it down even if invited.

I am just above 1000 published faces. I have had to come up with a naming conversion and categories to keep the overview. I would like to see a folder structure in Facer Creator, that would help.

Making partner is not my objective, but if asked, why not. I’d be happy to contributing and support the platform as best as I can.

I’m at 1,275 faces at the moment and I’m just doing for fun of it, the creativity of it.

Most people do it because they enjoy it. When it’s a hobby, creativity and love for the project resonate in the details.

Yeah, you can make fun of my English and my race, but I’m not that dumb to know that the only person profiting from your work is Facer.

He’s not making fun of you, he was most likely on his phone, and he has trouble texting and commenting in the community. I’ve received several messages from @russellcresser like that. I’ve learned to read through his typos and can get the main idea he is trying to send.

Calm down, this is a friendly place.

Russell is extremely valuable member of this community.
Nobody is making fun of anybody here, ever.
Members are from all around the world with different knowledge levels of English. Nobody cares if language mistakes are made.
Race?? Who cares??

And yes, only Facer makes money unless you are a partner.

My husband, a programmer, for some major companies, has always done that. It drives me bonkers! I can’t watch him when he’s using a keyboard. :grimacing:

One of the best things I did in high school was to take a typing class. This was back in the days of the old manual typewriters. Over the 50 plus years since then, I have found it to be very useful. Especially now in the computer age.

@mrantisocialguy . I think you have hit the nail on the head . Propper classes . I wish that I had gone to Coding Classes . I was told as a Child that I would not be able to do it because my maths was so poor . I have since found out it is more about logic and not remembering a bunch of number combinations like the times table or PI . Having said that i remember this much 3.14159 which is accurate enough to get me a decent orbit on a Smartwatch . Some platforms do not have a PI tag . Also 1/16 inch is near enough 1.6mm .

While I was a dealership mechanic, General Motors switched to metric but not everything was metric. So, I have both metric and imperial tools in my toolbox. 11mm is a pretty good 7/16", and 8mm works as a 5/16". 7mm is 9/32" and 13mm is a slightly loose 1/2". Knowing that always came in handy for rusted fasteners where you needed a slightly larger or smaller fit.

Then when we got reprogrammable computers with eProms I had to use a roll around computer next to the car and attach it to the diagnostic connector. It DID NOT have a mouse and you had to use a keyboard to use it. That is when my typing skills started being useful.

I did the same for one hour a week for a year on an ancient mechanical typewriter in early high school - one of only 2 boys in a class with more than 20 girls. We only had a couple of options outside of the core subjects so it was either typing or another year of making awful sounds blowing into a trumpet in music class. An easy choice at the time and so glad I did - I can still touch type all the letters and only need to glance down for the numbers and special characters.

I once had to borrow a laptop in France for work and it was a mess - not all the keys were different but I found it almost impossible to overcome muscle-memory and had to revert to two-finger typing!

Lucky you.
I was in technical school, 20 guys and 2 girls.
I’ve been soooo jealous of guys like you.

We are off topic here, but I’ve come to the conclusion that nobody cares anymore.

I’ve noticed that these days moving keys around seems to be a necessity for new laptops because companies have been trying to make them thinner and provide extra keys for Copilot and all that. The alphabet is in the same place, but everything else gets relocated – a bit frustrating for many.

LOL, yes annoying.
I know 2 people who could not care less, they use these, and one of them does not need a mouse either - only uses shortcuts:
