That may be part of the plan based on the needs of the business.
Ok, I guess no one doesn’t understand my concern. But it’s fine. Go ahead and promote outside of Facer and not promote loyal paying Facer users here. It’s pretty sad!
I understand that you are frustrated with partner selection. Many have been promoted from within Facer over the years. This time it was different along with other changes to Facer. Next month it might be active members from within. Change is not “sad”. Change is good. It is doubtful that partner selection has anything to do with “loyal paying”. I was not paying when I was invited. Neither did I think I was entitled to anything for any reason simply because I had been actively designing here for a couple of years.
What I am saying is, WHY for use Facer creators, have to have 1 watch face to get 3k syncs in a 30day period and outside promotion don’t have to. MAKES NO SENCE and not FAIR the creators here that post here on facer. Isn’t being “partner” to get out faces on Google Play? But we have to get a single face get 3k syncs within a 30day period. Make this make sense!!
I don’t think the X number of syncs in X number of days is anything set in stone. But gauging syncs is at least an objective means to measure a designer’s appeal within Facer. But the key thing to always remember about the Partner program is it is an “invitation” in the end. That’s why Linlay says don’t burn bridges in the community. It’s not simply a stats checklist and you’re in.
In this particular instance, the outside designers they brought in were obviously brought in because of the WearOS 6 news and Facer’s return to NEW Samsung watches after missing out on a year. It makes sense from the perspective of trying to use established popular Play Store designers as a means to lure this huge market of Watch 7 and 8 users back to Facer or to discover Facer for the first time because Facer has not been available to them for a year.
As I said before, Facer has shown they are committed to growth, they have a proven track record of growth, many of the moves they make are made from that business perspective. If there was no growth there would be NO new partners added at all. So yes, you don’t have to like it, and it’s ok to be frustrated about it, but it makes sense. If it was only about quality and syncs in Facer, then Brazen would be in already
I’m not burning anything, I’m just stating about something that isn’t fair to us Facer creators. I’m sorry but imo they shouldn’t promote outside people that aren’t even using Facer to create faces. That’s all I’m saying.
you said something doesn’t make sense to you. I merely was trying to help you understand the sense behind it.
This convo has been in many threads, but again, you’re not getting in if you’re not good. If you’ve got your stats met but you suck, you won’t get in. You could have double the stats they claim you need but if they think your work is sub-par, you won’t get in. If you copy shit, you won’t get in. Make cool shit with the tools you have, make it readable, usable and beautiful and you’ve at least got a chance.
I’d like to know what is copying as everyone seems to be copying watch faces from someone else.
Just to be clear @Rator is not suggesting you are copying shit, rather, if users are copying shit and not producing their own unique masterpieces they will not be invited to be partners - probably. In my case my watchfaces i recognise are not good enough even though I think that they are masterpieces.
Congratulations !!!
I hear what you’re saying but some of these faces require time and effort to produce them, I can make basic faces that only takes 5 minutes but my reasoning is to make good watch faces or not make any at all. The partner thing would make a good motivation for me.
dont copy existing watches in RL and dont copy existing designers work, and don’t use copyrighted materials like the star wars logo or BMW etc. And yea I was NOT implying you were copying anything, just saying in general for anyone looking to be partner.
Established Play Store designer here. I sat on my hands for 2 years in Facer making free content and satisfying the “criteria” numerous times while waiting for the call. Then I saw the writing on the wall and moved on to Google Play Store and built my brand there almost 2 years ago. I have been at this for over 6 years starting way back in Watchmaker/Google+ days which I am sure some current partners here will remember. I have unique faces that cover the full range from digitals, artistic, classic analogues, tourbillons, and particularly my Isometric designs. If it’s range Facer is looking for, tell me that I dont have range. Feel free to check out my range of work on the Play Store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=7307255950807047471 ). I have applied a few times to Facer and am not even worthy of a response. Still waiting…and it very disheartening to be honest. I have been trying hard to play the game and not show my frustrations as other people “get in” with pretty much the same faces as everyone else. It just doesn’t make any sense to me.
This post really made me pause.
I wasn’t even aiming to become a Partner until another Partner told me my work qualifies, but reading this is honestly discouraging.
Meeting the published criteria and not even getting a single line of feedback or reason for rejection feels very unprofessional. We invest time and creativity here, the least we expect is transparency and a simple explanation when we’re not accepted.
Without that, it feels like a closed club rather than an open program, which makes me hesitate to commit more to Facer.
Hey, I could just be the real unlucky one. I am not here to discourage anyone, I am just recounting my experience. It does seem like an easy ride for some and a completely uphill battle for others though.
I actually think posts like this are good for the platform.
Honest feedback helps Facer improve, and transparency benefits everyone, creators and Facer alike. Right now there’s so little clear information about the Partner program (even the official page leaves many questions unanswered.
For example, what are the actual earnings? Is it worth the effort for creators who already have jobs and just want to share their creative work? Nobody benefits from uncertainty, clear expectations would motivate more designers to invest their time here.
From my experience, only a handful are making real $$$ on Play Store/Facer in my opinion. I am definitely not looking at this as a career but being semi-retired and having a long standing interest in graphics and watches, this seems like a good fit for me. I would definitely love to turn this into a long-term alternate revenue stream for myself as it is the dream to actually make a little money doing something you love right? Who knew the hardest part of it would be to actually get a platform to sell whether it be Google Play or Facer.
All the other stuff, is easy for me and I really thought building a brand on Google Play, understanding the ins and outs of the Google Play Console/Android Developer, doing my own endless self-promotion on various social media platforms with everything from Images, animated gif, to video, in addition to having modest success would be enough to Catch Facer’s eye. Doesnt seem like it eh?
Thanks for sharing your experience so openly, it’s really valuable to hear from someone who’s been through this.
What strikes me is that many creators might not even want to become Partners if they knew what it actually involved. Why keep it such a mystery? Transparency about something as basic as earnings or benefits would let people make an informed decision.
Right now, we’re asked to apply for something we know almost nothing about, why would anyone commit to that? Clear info would help everyone: creators know what to expect, and Facer gets engaged and motivated partners rather than hesitant ones.
